FAQs About CNC Turning Services
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
In CNC turning, the workpiece rotates while cutting tools remain stationary, making it ideal for creating cylindrical parts. The material is mounted in a chuck that rotates at high speed while tools remove material to create the desired shape. CNC milling, on the other hand, uses rotating cutting tools while the workpiece remains stationary, making it better suited for creating parts with flat surfaces and complex geometries that aren't rotationally symmetrical.
CNC turning is ideal for parts with rotational symmetry or cylindrical features, such as:
- Shafts and axles
- Bushings and sleeves
- Pins and fasteners
- Valve components
- Fittings and connectors
- Pulleys and gears
- Cylindrical housings
Our standard lead time for CNC turning services is 7-10 business days, but we offer expedited options as fast as 3-5 days and rush services for 1-2 day turnaround when needed.
Small-batch processing focuses more on flexibility, and general fixtures and simplified processes may be adopted; for large-batch processing, special fixtures will be designed and tool paths will be optimized to improve efficiency and consistency.
For some irregularly shaped parts, as long as their rotationally symmetric parts are suitable for turning processing, they can be completed by combining turning with other processing methods. However, completely non-rotationally symmetric irregular parts may not be suitable for pure turning.
Our CNC turning capabilities allow us to machine parts with diameters ranging from 2mm (0.08") up to 450mm (17.7") and lengths up to 1000mm (39.4").
In the early stage of processing and when mass production has not yet started, you can communicate with the manufacturer to make changes, but additional programming and debugging fees may be incurred, and the delivery time will be affected; if it is in the stage of mass processing, the cost of changes will be higher.
Usually, detection tools such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, projectors, and coordinate measuring machines are used to measure and inspect the dimensional, shape, and position accuracy indicators of parts in accordance with the drawing requirements.
If the over-tolerance range is small and does not affect use, rework and repair can be tried; if the over-tolerance is serious and cannot be repaired, it may need to be scrapped and remade. At the same time, the cause of over-tolerance needs to be checked and the process adjusted.
With suitable materials (such as copper and aluminum) and processes, through fine turning and the use of high-gloss tools, a surface roughness close to that of a mirror can be achieved, which can generally reach Ra0.02-0.05μm.
